Updraft One

I was awarded a FIND artist fellowship from New York University Abu Dhabi in 2014, for my research project ‘Tinn, Reviving the Art of UAE Pottery’. 

I used part of the funding granted to build Updraft One, a prototype updraft kiln, the type of kiln used by the Julfar potters. I collaborated with master potter and kiln building expert Joe Finch to build this experimental kiln at his studio in Wales to understand more about the technologies involved in updraft firings and in preparation for building a full replica Julfar Kiln, Updraft Two.
